Intern – On-board processing capabilities for regenerative payload

Novaspace is offering a 6-month full-time internship, based in Toulouse, to support its consulting activities with a focus on on-board processing capabilities. This is a unique opportunity to work in the vibrant space industry. 

Objective is to make an exhaustive map of COTS suppliers and relevant hardware that could be used for an on-board processor for a regenerative satellite constellation system in a 5G context. 

Any on-board processor needs a different set of sub-components such as FPGA, ASICS, µ-processors or even RAM capacity. In the framework of the next generation constellations, the question of the possible suppliers of such sub-components is becoming crucial if mirroring sovereignty requirements.

Your Tasks Include:

  • Worldwide review of actors providing or being able to provide sub- components solutions participatingin the design of an on-board processor in a regenerative payload. 
  • Worldwide review or 5G providers of the different layers: 
-List of COTS L2/L3 RAN suppliers 
-List of COTS L2 and L3 router suppliers 
-List of COTS ADC/DAC 5G compatible suppliers 
  • System architecture analysis with the goal to see how a “European only” solution will compare to a “Non-European architecture” or an “Hybrid architecture” trying to maintain a certain level of sovereignty. 
  • If time permits, an analysis of possible RU/DU/CU splits will be analysed with associated architectures. 

 

DesiredSkills & Experience: 

  • Quality of work Strong academic background in engineering, electronic and 5G architecture. 
  • Knowledge on MBSE and embedded software ecosystems would be a plus. 
  • Excellent analytical skills, with proficiency in both qualitative and quantitative research. 
  • Interest or experience in space technology. 
  • Proficiency in English (spoken and written). 
  • Highly proficient with Excel and the Microsoft Office suite (PowerPoint, Word). 
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
