COMPANY
Space4Good is an innovative social enterprise utilising earth observation technology for social and environmental impact. Combining remote sensing, GIS and artificial intelligence, we map, analyse and model complex ecosystems and support leading organisations and institutions on topics such as nature-based solutions (NBS) and climate change. By doing so we help impact makers on the ground to make more informed decisions, improve operational efficiency, create data-driven transparency and unlock new revenue sources at scale.
INTERNSHIP GOAL
Apply remote sensing techniques and AI to map and analyze biodiversity parameters in agricultural landscapes within a Horizon Europe Consortium project.
INTERNSHIP TIMELINE
Start: September/October 2024
Duration: 6 months
RESPONSIBILITIES
You will be helping a technical expert perform a specialized task whose outputs will fit into the wider geo-data pipeline. This starts with a proactive approach to collecting relevant requirements, as well as the actual development of the agreed deliverables. Specifically you will review recent papers referencing the different earth-observation layers that can be generated to monitor biodiversity. You will then recreate the state-of-the-art layers in the agricultural context of Europe and relate them with in-situ measurements (eDNA, bioacoustic data, etc.) Finally you will maintain detailed documentation of methodologies, workflows, and results for internal reference. You will have great personal freedom in fulfilling these responsibilities and the opportunity to grow into your preferred expert area.
PROFILE
We are looking for somebody who has:
Strong understanding of remote sensing methods and products (kernels, ML algorithms)
Proficiency in remote sensing software (e.g., ENVI, QGIS, ArcGIS)
Strong programming skills in Python, and Google Earth Engine
Affinity with vegetation indices related to agriculture and/or high interest in them
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a keen interest in environmental issues.
Effective communication skills and fluent in English
Current enrollment in a university program (remote sensing, environmental science, geography, or a related field)
Available for at least 6 months
Ability to work collaboratively among diverse team members in a remote and in-office environment.
