We are looking for a Systems Architect to be integrated in Portugal, reporting to the Innovation Department.
The duties and responsibilities of the job include, but are not limited to:
End-to-end system architecture design:
▪Define scalable architectures for the generation, processing, and delivery of Earth Observation (EO) data products, including VHR imagery and derived analytics.
▪Ensure consistency across space segment → ground segment → data exploitation layers.
Data pipeline and platform design:
▪Define data lifecycle management (storage tiers, cataloguing, lineage, retention).
Cloud / hybrid infrastructure definition:
▪Design architectures leveraging cloud-native (AWS/Azure/GCP) and/or on-prem HPC environments.
▪Optimize for:
-Latency
-Cost efficiency (storage + compute trade-offs)
-Scalability (multi-mission, multi-sensor ingestion)
Integration and interoperability
▪Define API-first architectures for integration with:
-GIS platforms (e.g., ArcGIS)
-External data sources (IoT, AIS, weather APIs)
▪Ensure compliance with OGC standards
Performance, reliability, and security
▪Define SLAs and KPIs
▪Implement DevSecOps and SRE principles
MSc or PhD in:
▪Aerospace Engineering
▪Remote Sensing / Geomatics
▪Computer Science / Data Engineering
Additional Training Desirable:
▪ISO 9001 (quality management systems)
▪DevSecOps / Secure Software Lifecycle
▪Site Reliability Engineering (SRE)
▪Cloud certifications (AWS / Azure / GCP Architect)
▪OGC / Geospatial standards training
Experience:
▪A minimum of 2 to 5 years of experience in a similar role.
▪Proven experience in designing distributed EO data systems (from ingestion, processing to delivery).
▪Cloud or hybrid architectures handling large-scale geospatial data.
▪Experience with EO processing chains and integration of multi-source data (satellite + auxiliary datasets).
▪Highly desirable experience European EO Space Project or Defence/ISR-related project.
▪Highly desirable knowledge on EO products validation.
▪Experience replaces training.
Technical Skills:
▪Data Systems Architecture, including distributed system design and big data frameworks.
▪Cloud and Infrastructure development.
▪Software integration.
▪(Desirable) AI/ML pipelines integration.
▪(Desirable) Earth Observation domain understanding (optical sensors, imagery processing).
▪Familiarity with satellite constellations and data fusion processes.
Soft Skills:
▪Strong analytical and systems-thinking capability.
▪Ability to operate at strategic and technical levels simultaneously.
▪Effective communication with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
▪Leadership in multidisciplinary and high-performance teams.
▪Decision-making under uncertainty (architecture trade-offs).
Languages:
▪English (mandatory)
▪Spanish
Observations:
▪This role is not purely IT architecture; it requires deep EO domain knowledge.
▪Strong emphasis on end-to-end thinking, from satellite acquisition to user-facing services.
▪Critical position for enabling new EO-based products and digital twin platforms.
Offer:
▪Career development opportunity.
▪Wage package appropriate to the presented experience.
▪Access to various benefits such as training academy, health insurance, among others.
